When Arne Slot took the reins at Feyenoord, it was clear that his tenure at AZ Alkmaar was only the beginning of a promising managerial career. His success with a modest Feyenoord squad, achieving remarkable feats including a European final, has only bolstered his reputation as one of the finest in Europe. Despite losing to Roma, Slot’s squad emerged as arguably the most improved team of the season, a testament to his tactical acumen.
Speaking with Anfield Index, Burak Zihni, the Sports editor of Turkish outlet Damga, and an expert on Dutch football, Slot’s work at Feyenoord has been nothing short of transformative.
“Slot reshaped the squad brilliantly, turning relatively unknown players into stars on the European stage,” Zihni observed. Players such as Santiago Giménez, Igor Paixão, and Dávid Hancko were among those who benefited from Slot’s keen eye for talent and strategic prowess.

Slot’s ability to revitalise players and integrate them into a cohesive unit was evident. He reinvented players like Orkun Kökçü, and elevated others including Lutsharel Geertruida, Quilindschy Hartman, and Mats Wieffer to become crucial elements of his team. “All of Feyenoord’s recent success can be attributed to Slot’s leadership,” Zihni added.
His style of management, marked by motivation and instilling a sense of enthusiasm and energy into the team, has not gone unnoticed. With mounting rumours linking him to the prestigious managerial position at Liverpool as a potential successor to Jurgen Klopp, the fit seems almost natural.

“Liverpool would provide the perfect stage for Slot’s talents. With a significant budget, global recognition, and a team seasoned in Champions League warfare, Slot’s transition could be seamless,” Zihni suggested.
Described by many as a father figure within the squad, Slot’s potential move to Liverpool excites fans and pundits alike. If these claims materialise, it will be intriguing to see how his methodologies adapt to the demands and expectations of a club as storied as Liverpool. As Zihni aptly puts it, “It will suit him very well.” Here’s hoping for success in this new chapter, should it come to pass.
