Tottenham have had some phenomenal players over the years – including a few who were criminally underrated.
The likes of Jan Vertonghen and Lucas Moura are two in recent times that were shining lights at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – but didn’t always get the plaudits in the Premier League.
In the current squad, a few also fit the bill. Dejan Kulusevski and Pape Matar Sarr are two who don’t get enough credit.
But one player fits the bill of ‘underrated’ to a tee, and Manchester United’s Scott McTominay seems to agree.

Mousa Dembele never got the credit he deserved as a Spurs midfielder, and speaking to Goal, Scott McTominay evidently agrees.
McTominay was asked to build his perfect footballer made up of several different categories in a quick-fire question game, and when he was asked who the most underrated player he could think of in recent times – he said Dembele. Here are his picks below:
The Scottish midfielder has some good taste, also including former Tottenham legend – Harry Kane.
Tottenham sold Dembele for just £11m back in January 2019 to Guangzhou R&F in the Chinese Super League. To be quite honest – a waste of undeniable talent.
Dembele bossed it at Hotspur Way for years and was often the glue to hold the side together. If Spurs had him playing in the Champions League final… would they have won it? Who knows.
But one thing is for sure, Dembele was criminally underrated and was a great servant for Tottenham Hotspur.
