Scott McTominay made his 250th senior appearance for Manchester United in their crucial 3-2 win over Newcastle United last night.

It could have been a very different story had the Scottish international been sold in the summer as West Ham United eyed up a move for the 27 year old.

However, no move came to pass and he stayed at the club.

The youngster was given his debut by Jose Mourinho in 2017 and he has recently spoken out on how important the Portuguese coach was in his early development at Old Trafford.

The Scotland international has been heavily criticised during his time at the club and many feel he does not have the required skills to be a Manchester United midfielder.

However, he has enjoyed the most productive season of his career in front of goal, scoring 10 goals in all competitions this season.

Only Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund have scored more for the Red Devils in this campaign.

McTominay has reinvented himself as a goal poacher for club and country and seems to have a knack for scoring crucial late goals as he has already done against Brentford and Aston Villa this season.

The midfielder now finds himself 57th on the all-time appearance chart for the Red Devils and he is now only handful of games behind legends such as Edwin van der Sar and Andy Cole.

Despite the strong season the player has enjoyed, his future is far from safe at Old Trafford.

New owners INEOS are determined to revolutionise the squad and with strict PSR financial rules in place, McTominay could be a valuable piece to sell as he is from the academy, so any transfer would result in pure profit.

Moreover, he is one of the few United players this campaign who has probably increased his market value.

However, he may want to stay and if he accepts he is primarily a goal-scoring option off the bench, then he may be able to forge out an even longer career at Old Trafford into his thirties and push his way into the 300s for the club.
