Bain’s contract at Celtic has a year remaining and in that time at best he’d be playing third fiddle to behind both Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo who will both compete for the starting spot next season.
At 33, Bain has a few years left in him yet as a goalkeeper and having had very little football at all at Celtic in recents seasons, the time is right for him to move on. He joined Celtic from Dundee in back in the January transfer window in 2018 and was in goals for Celtic’s Beautiful Sunday at Ibrox when Odsonne Edouard scored that memorable winner in a 3-2 victory that sent theRangers fans over the edge, resulting in restricted away allocations.

More recently Bain played in the friendly away to Sligo Rovers in Ireland last October and his lack of game-time was very apparent, gifting the Irish side two goals before Luis Palma turned things around with a hat-tick to save Celtic’s blushes.
Scott Bain is a very popular member of the Celtic squad and you saw him at the weekend consoling Callum McGregor after his penalty shoot out miss in the Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen at Hampden Park.
In his time at Celtic Scott Bain has won seven Scottish Premiership titles, five Scottish Cup and four League Cup winners medals and he’ll leave Celtic with everyone’s best wishes.

Bain’s place in the Celtic squad is set to be taken by Celtic Academy graduate Ross Doohan is will re-join the club from Aberdeen.
