According to Bild, Schalke have already begun their planning for next season and are deciding on the future of some of their loanees.

The two players who are to be a part of Schalke’s first team next season are Marvin Pieringer and Florian Flick. Pieringer has been a key player for Paderborn this season as they push for promotion. The 23-year-old has played 21 times scoring 12 and assisting eight. Schalke currently needs a striker for next season with Michael Frey likely returning to Royal Antwerp after his loan, while Simon Terodde’s contract expires at the end of the season.

Florian Flick will also be implemented in the squad. The defensive midfielder has played 19 times for 1.FC Nuremberg this season and with the likes of Alex Kral, Éder Balanta and possibly Tom Krauß all returning to their parent clubs at the end of the season, Schalke will need a number six. Hoffenheim had shown interest in Flick, but Schalke rejected any advancements.

The likes of Kerim Çalhanoğlu (Sandhausen) and Blendi Idrizi (Jahn Regensburg) will return to Schalke in the summer but their future next season could depend on whether Schalke are in the Bundesliga or not.

The future of players such as Jordan Larsson (FC Copenhagen), Reinhold Ranftl (Austria Vienna) and Dries Wouters (Mechelen) is currently unknown as all have buy options in their loan agreements.

While Can Bozdoğan, who is on loan at FC Utrecht in the Netherlands, will not return to Schalke. The 21-year-old has a €1.7 million buy option on his loan, but the Dutch side does not wish to pay it. Schalke recently rejected a bid of €1 million from Utrecht.
