Dutch coach set to be knighted as she targets history this weekend
Sarina Wiegman is in line for an honorary damehood after leading the Lionesses to the Euro 2025 final.
Wiegman led England to Euro 2022 glory and is set to be knighted if England beat Spain on Sunday, with a report in the Telegraph saying she will be given a damehood even if they lose.
The 55-year-old Dutch coach has guided England three consecutive major finals since her appointment in September 2021.
England go into Sunday's final against Spain as underdogs, but should they triumph Wiegman and a number of key players in the England squad would be in line for honours.
Should captain Leah Williamson become the first England footballer to lift two major international trophies as captain, she is set to be considered for a CBE.
Wiegman was awarded an honorary CBE after England won the Euros three yeas ago.
If England beat Spain, Wiegman will become the first manager of a senior England team to manage two tournament triumphs, and the only one to successfully defend a major title.
She is on course for her third successive Euros win after leading the Netherlands to glory in 2017, before following that up with victory as England boss in 2022.
