Handanovic is second on the list of all-time appearances by foreign-born players in Serie A history, with only Javier Zanetti (615) ahead of him.

He is tenth on the Nerazzurri’s all-time appearance list. During his time with the club, he won two Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.

He also helped Inter secure the Scudetto under Antonio Conte.

However, Handanovic’s influence and prominence in the squad began to wane. Last season, Andre Onana usurped him as the first-choice keeper.

The decision to part ways with the experienced shot-stopper is one Inter have been planning for a while. Handanovic’s exit comes amidst a crucial reshuffle in Inter’s goalkeeping department.

Onana is now poised to join Premier League giants Manchester United, leaving a void Inter must fill. The Serie A club need two new goalkeepers.

Their first signing between the sticks will likely be a promising young talent, with rumours linking the club with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Anatoliy Trubin.

The second acquisition will likely be a seasoned keeper – there have been links to Hugo Lloris and Yann Sommer.

The Frenchman is in the final year of his contract at Spurs and is looking to leave, while Sommer is surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich after only six months.
