Sébastien Denis is reporting that Saint-Étienne have reached an agreement with Auxerre over the transfer of striker Gaëtan Charbonnier (33).
Charbonnier was an essential part in Auxerre’s title push last season, scoring 17 goals in Ligue 2, but he has featured more sparingly this term. He scored in Auxerre’s Ligue 1 opener against Lille, but hasn’t scored since and has only started one game since mid-August.
Having been relegated from Ligue 1 last season, Saint-Étienne are in danger of successive relegations, and currently sit at the bottom of Ligue 2. The club have been looking to bring in a forward and Charbonnier was a priority. According to Foot Mercato, the striker, who only had six months remaining on his contract, is set to sign in the coming hours. Auxerre, who initially wanted €3m for the striker will receive around €1m, including bonuses. Charbonnier is set to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Ligue 2 side.
