Our Premier League Awards honour the best – and worst – of the midweek action, featuring Jack Grealish, Anthony Elanga and Boubacar Kamara.

Moment of the Week

Jack Grealish hasn’t had the easiest of times this season but the Manchester City midfielder remains a breath of fresh air off the pitch. Whether its buying pints in working men’s clubs, engaging wholesomely in community projects, or just generally being himself, Grealish is an antidote to the mundane, overtrained and robotic media personalities we’re often greeted with.

Grealish scored his first league goal in 16 months against Leicester and paid tribute to his late brother on the 25th anniversary of his passing. The emotion in the 29-year-old’s voice was a reminder of the humanity of players, whose superstar status can detract from that reality when the critics come out in voice.

An honourable mention for this Murillo clearance.

Nottingham Forest weathered the pressure from Manchester United to claim a crucial 1-0 win at the City Ground, to edge closer to Champions League qualification. The Brazilian’s last-gasp save off the line ensured the points in stoppage time. How big could this moment be in the season’s context?

Player of the Week

Aston Villa have built one of the league’s best midfields for a cost of just £2.8m.

Villa boosted their hopes of successive top-four finishes with an impressive 3-0 win at Brighton. The visitors overran the Seagulls in midfield with John McGinn (£2.8m) and Youri Tielemans (free) impressive.

The star of the show, however, was Boubacar Kamara. Reports this week suggested Villa are prepared to offer the midfielder a mega-contract – and with good reason.

The 25-year-old has perhaps not received universal acclaim but those who watch Villa week in, week out, know Kamara is a gem. At Brighton, he was everywhere, snuffing out danger and snapping into tackles. A free transfer recruit from Marseille, Kamara was considered a coup at the time. His value now has sky-rocketed.

Anthony Elanga proved a point to his old employers this week with a scintillating solo goal to down Manchester United. Elanga’s electric run and finish secured Nottingham Forest a huge win and further emphasised how Forest got the better end of their £15m deal to sign the Swedish speedster from Old Trafford. It’s 28 goals and assists in the Premier League since the start of last season for Elanga.

We’re sure to have Newcastle fans in the comments asking ‘What about Sandro Tonali?’.

Stat of the Week

Ruud van Nistelrooy admitted the gap to 17th place is ‘too much’ for Leicester to make up after defeat at Manchester City.

It’s been a torrid time for the Dutchman at the King Power Stadium, with the Foxes now resigned to relegation.

Quote of the Week

Chelsea and Tottenham is a contest that often brings chaos and it was the case again this week.

Ange Postecoglou certainly picked a fight with the wrong people, after cupping his ear to the Spurs supporters at Stamford Bridge. After chants of “you don’t know what you’re doing” after the introduction of Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson, Postecoglou made a point to the fans when Sarr scored. VAR, however, brought a premature end to Ange’s antics and left the Spurs boss desperately trying to cover his tracks.

We’re not buying it one bit, mate.
