Hull City have agreed a deal to sign Ryan Giles from Luton Town this January.
According to TeamTalk, the full-back has been pencilled in for a medical with the Tigers ahead of a proposed loan move.
Giles signed for the Hatters last summer, but has struggled for game time due to the bright form of Alfie Doughty.
The 24-year-old has featured 11 times for Rob Edwards’ side in the Premier League, making just five starts.
reported £4.5 million following an impressive loan spell at Middlesbrough in the previous campaign.
It has been reported that Hull have agreed an obligation to buy Giles in the summer as part of their deal with Luton.
The player is set to cost the Championship side up to £5 million, showing the club’s ambition to compete at the top of the second division.
Liam Rosenior is hopeful of leading the club to a fight for promotion to the Premier League.
The January transfer market has proven a busy period for the club, with changes to the first team squad sought in order to boost their top six hopes.
The signing of Giles is the latest deal, with Fabio Carvalho, Billy Sharp and Ivan Pondur all joining the side this month.
Hull have beaten Leeds in the race to sign the former Wolves full-back, with the Whites previously showing an interest in the player.
This will be especially sweet for the Yorkshire club given their rivalry with Leeds.
Giles was impressive for Middlesbrough last season, especially following Michael Carrick’s arrival as manager.
If Hull can get the full-back playing to that level again, then he could prove a very smart signing.
He contributed 11 assists for Boro as they finished fourth in the table, so that kind of impact on Rosenior’s side could be massive.
This is a clear sign of the club’s ambition to earn a top six finish, making it an exciting time for supporters.
Hull are currently eighth in the Championship table, one point adrift of the play-off places.
The Tigers are aiming to secure a play-off place, as they eye promotion back to the top flight.
The Yorkshire outfit have been outside the top flight since 2017.
Next up for Hull is a game at home against Millwall on 3 February.
Elsewhere, according to Ali Teker, Hull have agreed to loan Jason Lokilo for the remainder of the campaign. The midfielder has made 18 league appearances for Rosenior’s side so far this season, but is set to sign for Portuguese side Vizela.
The Belgian’s last appearance came on 19 January in the team’s recent 1-0 win over Sunderland.
However, he is the latest name to depart the MKM Stadium this winter, as Hull continue to make changes to their squad in the closing stages of the January window.
