According to Hull Live, the defender is set to make the switch to the Tigers’ Championship rivals.

The 27-year-old has been with the Yorkshire outfit since 2020, making the move from Southampton.

The centre-back made 41 appearances in the league last season, with the club surviving relegation with a 21st place finish.

Hull have reportedly agreed a fee with Middlesbrough for Jones this summer amid fears over his expiring contract.

The defender’s current deal is up in 2026, albeit with the option for another year, which led to concerns he could walk away from the MKM Stadium for nothing at the end of the upcoming campaign.

Instead, it’s understood that the club will receive £3 million ahead of his switch to Middlesbrough to join Rob Edwards’ side.

Jones did not feature for Sergej Jakirovic’s side in their pre-season clash with Kasimpasa last week, with the defender also sitting out training, although it’s believed he is also carrying a slight injury.

He is now set to leave their training camp in Turkey in order to complete a move to Hull’s Championship rivals.

The 27-year-old will join the likes of Marvin Mehlem, Xavier Simons and Joao Pedro in departing the Tigers this summer.

Alfie Jones’ importance to Hull

Jones arrived at the MKM Stadium following the club’s relegation to League One in 2020, and helped them immediately earn promotion to the Championship at the first attempt.

He cemented himself as a regular part of the side in the second tier, making a total of 149 appearances in the division across the last four seasons.

The defender’s departure will leave space in Jakirovic’s side that will need to be filled.

Hull’s first league game of the campaign will come against Coventry City on 9 August.

Alfie Jones departure is a blow for Hull

Jones proved himself as a Championship calibre player during his time at Hull, becoming a consistent presence in the side over the last five years.

His departure will be a blow to the team, especially as he will be moving to a rival within the division.

Edwards should be pleased with this deal, bolstering his defensive options at a reasonably low cost.
