Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that former Club Brugge captain Ruud Vormer is having medicals with Zulte Waregem today, ahead of a January transfer. Vormer has been linked with a move to the club for months, however there has been issues surrounding salary. It appears that an agreement has been reached, with Club Brugge continuing to pay part of Vormer’s wages and Zulte Waregem contributing to the rest.
Once a key player for Club Brugge in their championship winning seasons, the 34 year-old has been frozen out since last season. Despite Scott Parker becoming the new head coach, it was always likely Vormer would leave the club in January.
The former Feyenoord midfielder will likely go down as one of the most successful players in Club Brugge history, with five league titles won since he joined in 2014. In his 8 seasons with the club, Vormer played 356 games in all competitions, scoring 63 goals and providing 95 assists.
Vormer will now be leaving a team fighting for titles to one fighting to remain in the league. Zulte Waregem are second bottom of the Belgian Pro League, four points from safety with no wins in their last five matches.
