Juventus defender Daniele Rugani admits he ‘couldn’t breathe’ after scoring a late winner against Frosinone and is confident Federico Chiesa will help the team in the next few games.

Rugani scored a 95th-minute winner in Juventus’ 3-2 victory over Frosinone on Sunday, helping the Old Lady earn all three points for the first time in five matches.

Juventus players rushed to hug and celebrate with Rugani after his goal and the Italian defender really enjoyed the moment.

“I couldn’t breathe for 30 seconds, but I am so happy to have helped the team win and end this difficult moment, which we must leave behind now,” Rugani told DAZN.

Juventus collected just two points in four matches prior to today’s meeting at the Allianz Stadium.

“These moments can happen even after five excellent months,” noted Rugani.

“In 15 days, you risk ruining everything. We were also a bit lucky today, but it must be a starting point for us.”

Why have Juventus become so vulnerable defensively?

“It’s down to the mentality, cohesion and defensive wickedness, maybe we’ve lacked this a little lately,” argued Rugani.

“We must remember that it’s difficult to score against us when we defend together. We did it for five months, so we can do it again.”

“As I said before, it’s not easy to end difficult moments but I think Chiesa is improving,” said Rugani.

“He did well in training this week. I saw him in a good mood so I am confident he will help us in the coming weeks.”

Juventus have cemented second place with today’s win over Frosinone so they are now six points below leaders Inter, but the Nerazzurri have two games in hand.
