Reports in the Italian media this week suggested Napoli coach Rudi Garcia could be sacked if his team didn’t beat Empoli on Sunday.

Whether those reports were true or not, Viktor Kovalenko’s stoppage time winner for Empoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona will have piled further pressure onto Garcia’s shoulders.
The reigning Serie A champions have now lost three of their opening 12 matches of the new season, leaving them fourth in the table and eight points behind leaders Juventus.
According to reports, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis left his seat in the stadium as soon as Empoli scored, and a statement on Garcia’s future could be coming soon.
