Having seemingly missed out on two top Premier League jobs in the past month, Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim finds himself at the centre of attention again, with the recent saga involving Liverpool and West Ham now segueing into murmurs of potential interest from another English team.

The Portuguese coach, who emerged as a leading candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield after Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso ruled himself out of the running, created a storm when he flew to London for negotiations with West Ham - a move many interpreted as an attempt to force Liverpool's hand.

However, that backfired and, almost immediately, news of Arne Slot's impending appointment started to circulate.

Since then, Amorim has apologised for speaking to another club while still employed by Sporting. He admitted it was a "mistake" and asked the club's fans for forgiveness.

No talks between Liverpool and Amorim

Amorim went on to clarify that he did not engage in discussions with the Reds.

Instead, he flew to London for negotiations with West Ham, a move he also looks set to miss out on.

With West Ham confirming David Moyes' departure and Julen Lopetegui poised to step in, Amorim's future remains shrouded in speculation.

Amorim brushes off Manchester United interest

Despite him publicly committing his future to the club after 'London-gate', Amorim incredibly now finds himself linked to another English club.

Manchester United are now reportedly eyeing the 39-year-old as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag.

Amid the rumors, Amorim remained tight-lipped about his future plans but couldn't resist injecting a bit of humour into the situation.

He said: "We can’t control what happens in the future, but I’m very focused on Sporting, on the job. I certainly won’t be catching another plane to England!

"The mistakes I’ve made in the past I won’t make in the future."

England boss Gareth Southgate remains the favourite to take over at Old Trafford after Euro 2024.
