According to reports, Rotherham United are set to make a bid for the Fleetwood winger Ryan Graydon, while they are also set to return with a second bid for club captain Brendan Wiredu.

The Millers had a disappointing 2024-25 season, finishing in a relatively lowly 13th place in League One - an enormous 19 points short of the play-off places - following relegation from the Championship.

This means that manager Matt Hamshaw has a lot of work to do, rebuilding his squad ahead of the new season, and Rotherham have settled upon League Two Fleetwood Town for a pair of their best players.

Journalist Alan Nixon reports that Rotherham have an interest in two Fleetwood players. Nixon had already reported that the Millers had a £300,000 bid for club captain Brendan Wiredu which had been rejected, but confirms that they are expected to return with a second bid.

He also reports that Rotherham are set to bid for striker Ryan Graydon, who has impressed both as a striker and on the wing on the Fylde coast since joining Fleetwood from League of Ireland club Derry City in 2023.

Fleetwood triggered an option to extend his contract at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Rotherham United could tempt Fleetwood Town pair

Ryan Graydon played for Bohemians, Bray Wanderers, Longford Town and Derry City in the League of Ireland before moving to Fleetwood in 2023. He also made one appearance for the Republic of Ireland's under-19 team.

A versatile attacker who can play on the wing or in a central position, Graydon has had a mixed couple of years with the club. Fleetwood were relegated from League One at the end of the 2023-24 season, and he could only manage two League goals from 27 appearances for them.

But life in League Two seemed to suit him better, and 2024-25 saw him score nine times from 34 appearances despite an injury which kept him out of the team for their last nine games of the season.

If he's ready to make the step back up to League One again, then Rotherham could be an ideal place to do it. This is, after all, a club which has bounced between the Championship and League One in recent years and who could be plenty capable of launching a promotion challenge in 2025-26.

Fleetwood demonstrated their desire to keep hold of their most valued players by rejecting Rotherham's first bid for Brendan Wiredu, but the interest of a club in a higher division will be of interest to most players, and it may well end up that satisfactory bids are enough to tempt them to The New York Stadium for next season.
