Ross County earned a first-ever victory over Rangers with a 3-2 win at Victoria Park, blowing the Scottish Premiership title race wide open.

It appeared to be business as usual for Philippe Clement’s side when they took the lead after 15 minutes through an own goal from Staggies’ skipper Jack Baldwin. A win would have moved them back to within a point of Celtic with a games less played.

However, County were the better side for much of the contest, and bounced back shortly into the second half in stunning fashion.

In the 47th minute, Simon Murray tapped home a rebound after Jack Butland had brilliantly stopped his first effort, before George Harmon did similar just three minutes later to turn the game on its head.

Rangers pushed for an equaliser but as they threw bodies forward, it would cost them as County hit them on the counter and Eli King squared the ball to Josh Sims to finish from close range.

James Tavernier did pull one back from the spot in the 89th minute but the 55-time champions could not get another as the home side celebrated a famous victory, which will have been met with the same enthusiasm from those on the green side of Glasgow.

Rangers now sit four points behind their great rivals as the title race took another turn.
