Rangers’ new chairman Andrew Cavenagh has outlined his ambitious plans for the Scottish Premiership powerhouse.

Cavenagh sent a massive statement to the rest of the league after boldly claiming that Rangers are on a mission to reclaim their place at the pinnacle of Scottish football.

This comes three weeks after an American consortium including 49ers Enterprises completed a takeover. The new owners have also received the green light to invest an initial £20 million into the club.

The investment was unanimously approved at a general meeting in Glasgow, marking the start of a new era at Rangers.

Last season’s Scottish Premiership success was Celtic’s fourth in a row.

Rangers have had to sit on the sidelines and watch their Glasgow rivals dominate the division, but Cavenagh isn’t shying away from the challenge of stopping them in their tracks.

He made it clear when he spoke to the media for the first time. “‘We think it is achievable, or we wouldn’t be here,” he said (via the Daily Mail).

“We don’t think it will be easy. It is not going to happen instantaneously, but we will strive to improve the on-field performance, and we will continue to build the club’s infrastructure.

“If we didn’t think we could win, we wouldn’t be here. We are here because we think we can.”

The new owners want to redevelop Ibrox, make Rangers regular participants in the Champions League and ensure the club is financially sustainable.

Cavenagh has also thrown his full weight behind newly appointed manager Russell Martin. He believes the ex-Southampton man is the right fit to match the club’s high expectations.
