On Tuesday, at the Uefa Nations League draw, Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman revealed that Barcelona spoke to him after sacking Ernesto Valverde earlier this season.
It’s not the first time he’s been linked to the head coach role at Camp Nou.
“Yes, it’s true that Barca spoke to me but I said no because I’m with the national team and I have a commitment to stay in charge,” he said.
As an ex-Barcelona star, Koeman went but Koeman explained that he’d still like to manage Barcelona in the future.
The ex-Everton boss also spoke positively about Frenkie de Jong, who is currently enjoying his first season at Barcelona after his massive €75m move from Ajax over the summer.
“For me, his performance has been good. He plays in a different position to the one he’s used to but they are technical decisions.
“He’s a very young player, he’s learning a lot, but I think with me in the national team he plays differently.”
As for the Netherlands, they have been placed in Nations League Group A1 alongside Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Poland.
