There is now more doubt than ever about the future of striker Romelu Lukaku at Inter after forty hapless minutes played against Monza.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that early signs are that 2023 will be the year that the 29-year-old’s adventure with the Nerazzurri will come to a premature end rather than find reignition.

Lukaku had hoped that 2023 and the rest of the season would bring redemption following a first part of the campaign that saw him barely able to contribute in his second spell at Inter due to injury.

The Belgian’s appearance against Napoli may not have seen him at his sharpest, but nevertheless looked like a positive omen.

Against Monza over the weekend, by contrast, Lukaku looked like a shadow of his best.

More problems with fitness and match-sharpness emerged, and the feeling is that even when these issues are not, in and of themselves, calamitous, they simply keep piling up.

Time has not run out for Lukaku in Milan yet.

However, the Corriere argues, the Belgian has given more questions than answers with yet another very subpar display, and the uncertainty is beginning to mount.
