After a strong preseason and winning the trust of new manager Jose Mourinho, Roma’s Nicola Zalewski received his first call-up today to the Polish national team.

Manager Paulo Sousa included the Italy-born midfielder in his squad for the team’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers versus Albania, San Marino, and England.

It caps off a very strong summer for the 19 year-old in addition to ending any speculation regarding his national team future.

Zalewski was born to Polish parents in Tivoli and it was unknown if he would accept a call-up from Poland in favor of switching to the Italian national team.

However, former Roma midfielder and head of the Polish FA, Zbigniew Boniek, has insisted for months that the youngster would play a huge part in the future of Poland’s national side.
