Tottenham are stepping up their efforts to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, according to BBC Sport.
Positive progress has been made between the two clubs, though negotiations are still ongoing and a final agreement has not yet been reached.
As a result, there is increasing uncertainty over whether Eze will feature for Palace in their Premier League opening clash with Chelsea on Sunday, which could serve as a sign of how close a transfer deal is.
The 27-year-old’s release clause, valued at £60m plus £8m in add-ons, expired on Friday and Spurs are believed to be negotiating a fee slightly lower than that figure.
Spurs boss Thomas Frank is eager to strengthen his attacking options following three major setback to his squad.
James Maddison will be sidelined for most of the season with an ACL injury, while Dejan Kulusevski remains unavailable after knee surgery.
The loss of long-serving forward Son Heung-min, who departed this summer for the MLS, has served to strengthen Spurs’ need for reinforcements in forward areas.
Eze has also been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, but these recent reports suggest their North London rivals are now leading the chase.
