Serie A giants Roma are opening up to the possibility of handing Jose Mourinho a new contract at the club.
Roma recently grabbed a vital 2-1 win over Sassuolo and that helped them get into the top four, after Napoli’s loss to Inter. Things are starting to look up for the club again, especially after a poor start to the season.
Francesco Balzani has reported that optimism is starting to glimmer from Roma regarding Mourinho’s stay, with his current deal running out in the summer of 2024. The Friedkins have now slowly opened up to the possibility of renewal after an initial period of negativity about the same.
They are happy with the direction in which the club is going and the environment created by Mourinho. Tiago Pinto also seems to have found a sense of harmony with Mourinho and that was evident when the club sporting director backed Mourinho’s statements about Sassuolo and referee Matteo Marcenaro.
Mourinho understands that Roma have limits that need to be respected, but he wants some control over transfers, at least to make sure that Roma improve their squad and keep hold of their best players. He has no intention of moving to Saudi Arabia yet but he does not want to reduce his salary from his current wage of €7.5 million per season.
