Roma continued their push for Champions League qualification with a narrow 1-0 derby win over Lazio.
Scorers: Mancini 42′
Roma started the stronger but Lazio looked dangerous on the counter as the game found its rhythm.
The best of the early openings fell to the “home” side but Bryan Cristante and Zeki Çelik could not convert when presented with headed chances.
Just as Lazio started to dominate possession, Roma grabbed the opener three minutes before half-time. Paulo Dybala whipped a corner in and a completely unmarked Gianluca Mancini headed home from nine yards to send the Stadio Olimpico wild.
After the break, they could have doubled their lead with Stephan El Shaarawy hitting the woodwork. Perhaps realising they had got lucky, Lazio stepped things up and thought they had scored on the hour mark.
Daicha Kamada tapped in from close range but the Roma defence had played him offside.
That was the best of it, and after some handbags towards the end, the game ended with Roma running out deserved victors.
They are now just two points behind fourth-placed Bologna, albeit having played a game more.
