Serie A side Roma are at risk of paying a hefty fine due to a financial scandal.
According to a report by La Repubblica, Roma have received a notice from tax authorities for falsely declaring taxes paid and revenue. The department assessed the club’s financial statements from 2016 to 2021 and found a potential breach in them regarding the payment of IRES (corporate income tax).
The Giallorossi have allegedly failed to pay €19 million in taxes and if the authorities can prove this charge, the club owners would be fined a staggering €17 million-€31 million by the end of this year.
An agreement between both parties is possible and Roma could settle the amount with a maximum of one-third discount of the administrative sanction. However, the case could also go to the Tax Court of Justice for trial if no solution is found within a stipulated period of time.
