Rodrygo played a starring role in the win against Almería with two spectacular pieces of genius. In the second goal, the Brazilian got away from the defender with an incredible move, effectively putting the ball around the defender to collect on the byline to set up Benzema. And in the second half he scored Madrid's fourth with a stunning right-footed shot from the edge of the area. Rodrygo analysed his manouevre: "I don't know what happened in my head. It was very quick, automatic. I didn't have very many options, it was my only way out. It was a nice 'self-pass', let's see if I can do it more often.

"I always speak very highly of Karim because he is a friend and a world-class player. We already know that he plays very well, that's why he's the best player in the world and he proves it in every game. It's always a pleasure to be able to give him an assist."

His goal from outside the box "It's a shot that I always practice. After training, we stay a little bit to try it and today it was very good. I always try to improve and shoot more in matches to score more goals. Today I scored a very nice one and I hope to score many more like that. It was a great goal and I'm very happy. We played a great game. I'm delighted for the assist, for scoring another goal and, most importantly, for the win."

Going for the game from the start "We always want to win, but we wanted to win even more today after losing our last game. It's a very important win. Things went well and we're very pleased."

On his form "I'm very content. I'm very well mentally and physically. I think it's the result of my work, I've always worked to be a starter and to keep playing. Now my time has come. There are big things coming up in our season: the cup final and then City. We're very focused on that and I'm looking forward to helping the team."
