Rodríguez inspires Club América past CD Guadalajara

MEXICO CITY – Club América won 4-nil against CD Guadalajara in the second leg of their Round of 16 series, winning 4-1 on aggregate, on Wednesday in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes in Mexico City, Mexico.
Chivas won 1-nil at home in the opening encounter in Guadalajara, Mexico last Wednesday. The match was the third meeting in a week between the Mexican rivals, with the two meeting in league play on Saturday.
Brian Rodríguez scored in the 6' with a left-footed hit into the right-side netting, equalizing on aggregate.
Diego Valdés got on the board for Las Águilas in the 45', slotting home a loose ball in the box. Rodríguez created the chance with a cross into the box that was punched away by Guadalajara goalkeeper Raúl Rangel.
Alan Mozo was sent off in the 46’ after receiving a double yellow card, leaving CD Guadalajara with ten men.
Alejandro Zendejas extended the lead for the Mexico City side in the 65', striking at the right post on a whipped-in ball from Rodríguez.
Álvaro Fidalgo added a fourth in the 79’, striking inside the penalty arc to place the exclamation point on the Clásico de México victory.
The series win sets up another rivalry encounter for Club América, who will face fellow Mexico City club Cruz Azul in the quarterfinals.
