Manchester City midfielder Rodri has issued a fresh Premier League title warning to rivals Arsenal.

The Spaniard, who was part of a Manchester City quartet to be named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year alongside a number of Arsenal stars, is currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury suffered during the European Championship.

Rodri helped Spain to European Championship glory in Germany during the summer, alongside winning a further three trophies with Manchester City during the 2023/24 season – lifting the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

The 28-year-old started 50 matches for Pep Guardiola’s side last season, and is set to be rewarded for another incredible campaign with a new long-term contract, with the deal set to propel the midfielder to become one of Manchester City’s highest earners.

Rodri has made 257 appearances and won 11 trophies at the Etihad Stadium since signing from Atletico Madrid in 2019, including four Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

The midfielder scored a crucial goal against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium last season to help Manchester City secure a record-breaking fourth successive Premier League title, as the Sky Blues lifted the trophy ahead of title rivals Arsenal.

Guardiola’s side have won the past two titles ahead of Mikel Arteta’s team, with the north London club expected to rival Manchester City for the trophy again this season.

Rodri has issued a fresh warning to the Gunners however, telling the Daily Mail: “Like always, we take it easy at the beginning. We’ve started well but this season is going to be so long so it’s all about creating that culture of winning.

“It’s a matter of self-motivation for me and trying to be better every day. I always have the feeling that I can improve and this is my mentality.

“They’ve shown their character and that they can fight until the end. We expect the same team – a team that can win 20 games in a row so we will have to push ourselves to our limits again if we want to win the title.”

Manchester City are due to face Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League next month, with the fixture scheduled to take place on Sunday 22 September.
