Kevin Van Dessel has been announced as the new head coach of Roda JC. Signing a one-year contract, the 46-year-old former player arrives as the successor of Bas Sibum, who left for Heracles Almelo.

Van Dessel returns to the Kerkrade club in his first job as head coach. The Belgian has worked as an assistant coach in his home country for KV Mechelen, RC Genk and KAA Gent in recent years.

After his retirement as a professional, the former midfielder worked as a youth coach at Roda, where he played between 1999 and 2007. Now he is returning to the Parkstad Limburg Stadium to take up a place in the dugout.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Technical Manager Rob Servais said: “Kevin has worked at a high level in Belgium and therefore has the qualities to develop a style of play. The step to head coaching comes at the right time for him, and Roda JC can benefit from that.” More will be known later about the composition of the technical staff.
