Robert Lewandowski has won the European Golden Shoe as the continent’s top scorer, comfortably beating Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe (28 goals), as well as Lazio’s Ciro Immobile and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema (both at 27 goals) to the award.

The 33-year-old Polish striker topped the scoring charts for the second year in a row with 35 goals over the last 12 months, having notched 41 in his previous campaign.

Of course, no player will ever claim their exploits as solely for their own benefit, and to that end, Lewandowski also helped his team to a 10th successive Bundesliga title, too.

But, with just one year remaining on his Bayern Munich contract and an eye toward Barcelona this summer, Lewandowski may not be celebrating the accomplishment among his Bayern team-mates.

Earlier this week, he admitting that he no longer wants to play for the Bundesliga champions, saying “something died in me.”

Whatever that was, his prospective next club will hope that “something” wasn’t his nose for goal.
