Robert Lewandowski feels Bayern Munich must ‘play differently’ if they are to beat his former club Borussia Dortmund.
Currently leading the Bundesliga table, Dortmund can equal their club-record of 11 games without a loss should they get a result on Saturday.
“They’re a young team with many young players,” former Dortmund striker Lewandowski told FC Bayern.tv ahead of Saturday’s clash.
“They’re creative, they’re attack-minded. They have good players. We have to focus on our tasks out on the pitch. It’s important to us, we’re experienced.
“But it’s Der Klassiker, it’s a really unique match. You have to play well from the first to the last minute, and probably offer something new, play differently.”
Though Bayern suffered a 1-1 draw last week against Freiburg, Lewandowski says the squad are full of confidence following their 2-0 Champions League victory over AEK Athens mid-week.
“I think we have taken a first step in the Champions League,” the Poland international said.
“Now we have to take another crucial step against Dortmund. We know it’s not going to be easy.
“We know how Dortmund have been playing this season, even if their last two displays weren’t perfect, and we really have to give it 100 per cent.
“If we succeed we’ll have a two-week (international) break, and it’s a period when you have fresh ideas and return with new hope.”
