Revealed: How much QPR paid in agents fees this season

Queens Park Rangers have not had a very impressive season, with the West London side sitting in the lower reaches of the Championship table and flirting heavily with relegation.

The once Premier League side have not fared well in past seasons since getting relegated nearly a decade ago, and this current one could get even worse if the Rs fail to avoid the drop.

However, instead of focusing on the Rs' current predicament, we want to look at the amount that the club have spent on agents fees this past season, and how these figures compare to other Championship teams.

QPR's agent fee spending

Over the weekend, journalist Alan Myers revealed, via his account on X (formerly Twitter), agents fees spent across the Premier League and EFL Championship.

Understandably, the Championship figures are dwarfed by the more financially powerful Premier League. However, there is still high expenditure in the second tier.

, which in terms of ranking among other Championship teams, is on the lower end of the scale.

QPR's agent fee spend compared

Looking into the figures more, we can see that the West London side have a mostly similar spend to clubs that are around them in the Championship table, barring Millwall, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers and Rotherham United, who have all spent less than £1m on agent fees.

The biggest spenders in the Championship are, by no surprise, the three relegated Premier League clubs, Leicester City (~£8.1m), Leeds United (~£13.2m) and Southampton (~£7.5m).

The slightly more intriguing comparisons, though, come as you look toward the surprise teams near the top of the table. Title-chasing Ipswich Town and playoff-chasing Middlesbrough have only spent a few hundred thousand pounds more, yet sit in a much prettier position.

Spending roughly £1.2m and £1.4m respectively, it could be argued that the fantastic positions those two clubs find themselves in is down to savvy transfers backed by their own scouting departments, and not pushed by agents themselves looking to land themselves and their players lucrative deals.

It should come as no surprise that the Rs' spending is down towards the bottom reaches, as they have languished in the second tier for nearly a decade.

They have long since said goodbye to parachute payments and strong financial backing from now-former chairman Tony Fernandes, but having looked at how well both Ipswich and Boro have performed despite a small outlay on agents, you can't help but feel a little more careful research into signings instead of believing all an agent has to say might secure Rangers so very hidden talents.

Where have QPR agent fees been spent this season

Agents in football typically represent players and, on occasions, managers, and QPR have had to dip into the markets of both this season.

Following Gareth Ainsworth's departure early on in the season, the Rs moved quickly to appoint Marti Cifuentes. He is a manager who is represented by an agency, and so QPR have racked up some fees with his move to the club.

Add to this their transfer outlay across the season, and the picture of their circa million pound agent spend begins to come into view.
