Super agent Jorge Mendes made a desperate double attempt to place Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo in Serie A in August.

Sky Italia says Mendes made a serious push to find Ronaldo a new club before the summer market shut.

Among the clubs contacted were AC Milan and Napoli.

In Milan's case, Mendes offered to move Rafael Leao to PSG in exchange for Ronaldo's arrival. But the option was never seriously considered, with Milan refusing to allow Leao to leave.

Mendes then turned to Napoli, suggesting he could take Victor Osimhen to United for €100m in exchange for Ronaldo arriving on-loan for the season.

Napoli were keen and insisted on United paying €120m for Osimhen, plus covering 100 per cent of Ronaldo's wages. However, United refused the counter proposal.
