A representative of goalkeeper Bento has denied that the cost was the reason for the Brazilian’s move to Inter Milan not materializing.

Speaking to Italian outlet TvPlay, via FCInter1908, Lodovico Spinosi, an intermediary in Bento’s entourage, said that it was rather the decision of Inter coach Simone Inzaghi which pushed the Nerazzurri to sign Josep Martinez instead.

Inter are on the verge of sealing a deal to sign keeper Josep Martinez from Genoa.

That means that the Nerazzurri will not be signing Athletico Parananense goalkeeper Bento.

For months, Bento had appeared to be the player Inter were most keen to sign as their new long-term goalkeeper.

The Nerazzurri’s plan has always been clear. They want to sign a young keeper who can back up Yann Sommer next season – and then be the Swiss veteran’s successor moving forward.

Bento and Martinez were not the only keepers that Inter were tracking this summer.

nter also eyed up Udinese’s Maduka Okoye and Lazio’s Christos Mandas from within Serie A. And Villarreal keeper Filip Jorgensen is another player whose agent they contacted.

But it was Bento and Martinez who always appeared to be the two main options.

Representatives Of Bento Deny Cost The Reason Inter Move Fell Through

Reportedly, 24-year-old Brazil international Bento had already said yes to an Inter move.

And as recently as a couple of weeks ago, the Athletico Paranaense keeper appeared to be the Nerazzurri’s priority target in goal.

But then, Inter shifted gears decisively.

The Nerazzurri have been negotiating with Genoa to sign Martinez.

And now, there is a full agreement. Inter will reportedly sign the Spaniard in a deal worth a little more than €15 million in total.

There have been some reports indicating that Inter preferred Martinez over Bento because he was the more affordable option in goal.

But according to Bento’s representative, this was not actually the case.

“Inter preferred to sign Martinez over Bento as their new goalkeeper,” said intermediary Spinosi.

As far as the reason, he said “I think the reason was a tactical decision by Inzaghi. Not for financial reasons.”
