Philippe Sandler has reportedly passed his medical to complete a move to Dutch side Feyenoord. According to the Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Feyenoord were initially expected to land him on a loan until the end of the season – but with only 6 months left on his contract, Sandler is now expected to make a permanent move to the 'De Stadionclub' on a free transfer.

City reportedly have a buy-back clause for Sandler, in the event he fulfils his potential, which led to him making a move to City in the first place.

Sandler is a Dutch centre-back who could also play as a defensive midfielder. Signed from PEC Zwolle in the summer of 2018, the Dutchman came to City with huge promise and was earmarked to become a first-team player in the future.

He made his debut for the senior side when he came off the bench against Rotherham, replacing Kevin De Bruyne, in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Sandler subsequently played the full 90 minutes in the 2nd leg of the League Cup semi-finals, which would end up being his last appearance in the senior squad.

Sandler was then loaned to RSC Anderlecht for the following season. The belief at City was that he could realise and fulfil his potential under the guidance of Vincent Kompany, who himself was arguably the best defender in the Premier League era.

His career in the Belgian league was off to a great start, with several standout performances helping him nail down a starting berth in the playing eleven. But a serious knee injury halted his great journey at Anderlecht. And subsequently, he had an ankle injury, which effectively ruled him out for almost the entire 2020/21 season.

Sandler was sent out on loan to City's sister club in France, Troyes FC before the start of the season. But the loan turned out to be another disaster for him, with him making only 2 appearances for the side in the French league.

Mino Raiola's client now looks set to move back to his home country, where he would like to get his derailed career back on track. The deal to take him to Feyenoord should be finalised before the end of the window today, with only paperwork left to be sorted before it is all done.
