Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane determined to start against Wales amidst rest calls

According to the Telegraph (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane is determined to start for England against Wales in their 2022 FIFA World Cup group-stage match on 29 November despite calls for him to be rested.

Kane suffered an ankle injury in the first game against Iran and played through the pain and England manager Gareth Southgate did reveal that the English striker had discomfort in his foot in the game against the USA.

Despite this, Kane played the whole 90 minutes in a game that England failed to win, thereby failing to secure qualification to the next round of the World Cup yet. Since there have been claims that the Tottenham man might be rested but he doesn’t want that.

Telegraph Sport columnist Joe Cole and former England striker Alan Shearer have both been of the opinion that Kane must be rested for the game against Wales despite England not yet securing qualification to the round of 16.

Kane is chasing Wayne Rooney’s goal-scoring record for England and he wants to keep playing in a bid to break it. The Tottenham man is yet to break his duck in this World Cup and England will want him to get off the mark.

The Golden Boot winner at the last World Cup, Kane has the rare chance to win back-to-back awards in the competition. However, he must take care of his injury first and that must be given utmost priority.

Kane must not be risked for England

Yes, England have not yet qualified for the next round in the World Cup. However, the Three Lions will be expected to qualify for the next round with or without Kane and it would be a shame if they fail to do so.

What matters most is that Kane is fit when it matters and that is for the knockout rounds for England. Kane is just 29-year-old and he will have enough chances to break Rooney’s record and it doesn’t make sense to risk it.

England needs to be sensible with Kane. The player will always want to play but Southgate needs to be sensible and make the best possible decision with the Tottenham man.
