Tottenham and Manchester United are reportedly setting their sights on a young player as they look to strengthen their midfield in the near future.
This week, Tottenham has been at the centre of rumours regarding potential signings for the upcoming transfer window.
Reports suggest that Spurs remain firmly in the race to secure Lille’s versatile midfielder, Angel Gomes.
The 24-year-old England international has impressed in Ligue 1, and Spurs have identified him as an ideal target for their ongoing midfield search.

The North London club is reportedly keen to move ahead of the competition and is considering making a move for Gomes as early as January.
Gomes, whose current contract with Lille expires in 2025, has informed the French club that he plans to leave when his contract runs out, according to TBR Football.
While Lille are unlikely to let him go in the upcoming winter window, Tottenham are reportedly eager to make an offer before he becomes a free agent.
Gomes' departure could come at the cost of a free transfer at the end of the season, but for Spurs, landing the midfielder early might be a strategic move to beat out rivals in the Premier League.
The interest in Gomes is not limited to Tottenham alone. Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Aston Villa, are also reportedly monitoring the midfielder’s situation closely.
While Tottenham are reportedly looking to act swiftly, Lille may be reluctant to sell their star player in the January transfer window, especially if it means losing him for nothing come the summer.
The decision rests with Gomes, who might prefer to leave on a free transfer, allowing him more flexibility to negotiate a higher salary and choose his next destination.
This gives him a broader range of options when he does eventually move on, as opposed to securing a transfer in the middle of the season.
Tottenham, however, may be more proactive in securing his services sooner rather than later.
Reaching out to Gomes' representatives in January could allow Spurs to wrap up a deal before other clubs have the chance to make their move.
Given Gomes' talent and potential, Spurs would certainly benefit from adding him to their squad, enhancing their midfield depth as they look to challenge for top honours in the Premier League.
