Reports in South American suggest Manchester United have reached an “advanced” stage of negotiations to offload Facundo Pellistri despite strong signals from Erik ten Hag that he is wanted at Old Trafford.

Facundo Pellistri recently made his Manchester United debut, despite joining the club in 2020. It was Erik ten Hag who gave him that debut and it’s the Dutchman who appears to see a future for the Uruguayan at the club.

Following the signing of Wout Weghorst on loan this month, the attention has turned to a player United could send out on loan. That being Pellistri.

While is agent admits they would be interested in offers from around Europe, Globo now claim that the winger is close to a move back to South America this month.

“It’s clear that Manchester United want him to stay at the club,” La Salvia told Sebas Giovanelli, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

“However, we need him to play. There are many options in Europe for Facundo on loan move.”

The report from Globo suggests Flamengo have “advanced” with their negotiations to take Pellistri for the remainder of the season, but it is contrary to what his agent has said.

SN Verdict

My preference would be for Pellistri to go on loan to another European club. Why not send him to a Championship side after seeing how good it has done for Amad Diallo? The Ivorian winger picked up Championship Player of the Month for his Sunderland performances in December.

Pellistri didn’t gain enough experience from his two spells in Spain and we must remember how Amad flopped at Rangers last year.

A bad loan can be a complete waste of time.

Finally, I would be shocked if we sent Pellistri to Flemengo. This isn’t a player like Andreas Pereira who were trying to sell by sending him the Brazilian club.
