Uruguay takings steps so that Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani can play in Brazil

According to Uruguayan outlet El Pais (h/t Manchester Evening News), Uruguay are taking the necessary course of action to ensure Edinson Cavani can play in next month’s World Cup qualifiers in Brazil.

The 34-year-old Uruguay striker is one of the top strikers the country has ever produced. And the report mentions that Uruguay’s secretary has sent in a message to Brazil’s Ministry of Sports in hopes that Cavani would be allowed to play in the upcoming games.

There is still an issue in Brazil when it comes to entertaining travellers from the United Kingdom. This led to a comical scene where Argentina’s match in Sau Paulo was intervened by health officials earlier this month in order to eject the Premier League players.

Edinson Cavani of Manchester United is wanted by Uruguay for the World Cup qualifier against Brazil.

But Uruguay’s sub-secretary, Paulo Ferrari, hopes that Brazil Sports Ministry will allow Cavani to be fielded when Uruguay take on Brazil at the Amazonia Arena during the early hours of October 15th.

Cavani wanted by Uruguay

“More than 5,700 athletes have entered Uruguay and we have not made any distinction by country of origin. A little while ago I sent the note and tomorrow the issue will continue with the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, the Brazilian Football Confederation and the Ministry of Health there so that they can continue working on a solution.”

Uruguay’s game against Brazil would undoubtedly be one of their toughest games in international football on paper. La Celeste are currently 4th in the qualifying table, three points behind Argentina and 6 behind Brazil, having played one game more.

Before the showdown against Brazil, Uruguay have tricky games against Colombia and Argentina as well. The nation would like to think of this generation as their best ever since the one that won the first two FIFA World Cups some 9 decades ago.

And it’s only fair that they want their best players to be playing in the most important games. As for United, they shouldn’t be interfering a lot in the matter. There is no shortage of strikers at the club right now and the club should understand the significance of what is at stake for the player.
