América can cry foul after a report by the Mexican Football Federation showed the Azulcrema were the worst hit by incorrect refereeing decisions during the Apertura.
TUDN reports that the authors looked at decisions made with the aid of VAR.
Seemingly, there were 14 faulty VAR decisions made during América’s games. Of these, four went in favour of Las Águilas as opposed to 10 that went against.
Monterrey were second in the stats, having seven poor calls against and five for. Next were Santos Laguna with six against and five in the positive column.
The FMF report found there 1,044 VAR reviews during the season. The overwhelmining majority of them (924) were “silent”, which meant that only those in the control room were involved.
Thirty-one decisions were made in collaboration with the main referee, while the sideline monitor was utilised 89 times.
Despite their hard luck with some calls, América still managed to top the regular season table.
And few would argue that their quarter-final exit to Pumas was down to anything other than their own shortcomings over the two legs.
