Last week a shock report emerged from Turkish media claiming that Sheffield United are interested in signing Besiktas midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Turkish giants are looking to let the former Liverpool and Arsenal man leave this summer, while the ex England international wants to return to English football as soon as possible.

Now, there has been another report coming out of Turkey, Hurriyet are stating that Sheffield United have stepped up there pursuit for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Oxlade-Chamberlain made a total of 30 appearances across all competitions for Besiktas last season, contributing four goals and an assist to his name. Despite these contributions, the Turkish club are considering letting the former England international leave this summer.

The BBC previously reported that the former Arsenal man earns approximately £2.2 million per season in Turkey, which amounts to around £42k per week. However, one persistent issue in Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career is his proneness to injury. Last season, he missed around 19 games due to injury, and the campaign before that, he was sidelined for 14 games, according to Transfermarkt.

Whether or not these rumours have any weight to them only time will tell us. It could be that the prospective new owners want to pull off a marquee transfer to show everyone they mean business. The issue with that is Oxlade-Chamberlain’s wages will be very costly and his injury record could make him an expensive casualty in the Championship.
