Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo to be questioned in an investigation surrounding Juventus

According to the Italian news outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail Online), Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo could get questioned in an investigation surrounding possible fraud done by Juventus. He left Turin in the summer of 2021 to make a return to Old Trafford after 12 long years.

Ronaldo left Real Madrid and joined Juve in 2018 after £99.2million was paid for his services. In his three years for the Bionconeri, he has made 134 appearances while scoring 101 goals and assisting his teammates 22 times. However, he could have to travel to Italy to face questioning surrounding claims suggesting false accounting records were made by the Italian club.

The police had raided the offices on Friday and have taken several documents relating to the allegations of false accounting records. Claims state, the Seria A club falsely recorded financial data to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations between 2019 and 2021.

Supposedly, the cops are looking into a “secret” agreement between Ronaldo and his previous club, which may pertain to deferred salary during the Covid-19 pandemic or the severance pay for leaving the club. They also have call recordings of the directors who speak about this agreement. However, they have not revealed the nature of the deal.

Jorge Mendes, his agent, could be asked to contact the 36-year-old to appear before Turin Public Prosecutor for questioning regarding the matter. It is unknown whether he would be forced to travel and thus miss some games for the Red Devils.
