Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto is on the verge of recovery after being on the sidelines for over a month.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the former Monza defender could return to training today.
With November’s international break drawing to a close, Simone Inzaghi’s men are bracing up for a trip to Hellas Verona.
Inter will resume preparations for the upcoming clash at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi today.
And the Brazilian star should be in the group after a month-long stint on the sidelines.
Despite Augusto’s imminent return to the fold, Inzaghi cannot catch a break.
Indeed, Hakan Calhanoglu sustained a fresh injury scare during Turkey’s UEFA Nations League game against Wales last weekend.
The 30-year-old had to come off late in the first half after allegedly renewing his thigh problem.
Ominously for Inter, Calhanoglu had to spend two weeks in the treatment room for this issue less than a fortnight ago.
Augusto slumped to a muscle injury during Inter’s 1-0 UEFA Champions League triumph at Young Boys last month.
Therefore, he was unavailable for selection in the last five matches.
With the 25-year-old sidelined, Inzaghi had no choice but to rely heavily on Federico Dimarco on the left flank.
Given Inter’s significant injury problems in the early campaign, Inzaghi’s ability to rotate his squad has been severely limited.
That has put additional strain on notable players like Dimarco.
However, with Augusto ready to give a hand, the Italy international could receive a well-deserved rest in the coming weeks.
In addition to Augusto, several international stars will appear at Appiano Gentile starting tomorrow.
Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella, Davide Frattesi, and Dimarco should rejoin the squad on Wednesday.
The same goes for Marcus Thuram, Benjamin Pavard, and Marko Arnautovic.
Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez will return later this week, with Argentina facing Peru on Tuesday night.
