Summer arrival Petar Sucic is ready to take the place of Henrikh Mkhitaryan in Inter Milan’s starting midfield.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the 21-year-old will keep his place in Sunday’s Serie A clash with Udinese.

Midfielder Petar Sucic was the one summer signing in Inter Milan’s starting eleven against Torino in their Serie A opener on Monday.

The Croatian international played in the Nerazzurri’s midfield trio alongside Nicolo Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Part of the reason that Sucic got the start on Monday was that Hakan Calhanoglu was unavailable. The Turkish international was serving a one-match suspension.

However, Calhanoglu is once again available to play in Inter’s second match of the season this weekend.

And according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the 31-year-old will come straight back into Inter’s starting eleven against Udinese.

According to the Gazzetta, though, it will not be Petar Sucic who makes way for Calhanoglu in the lineup.

Rather, veteran midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will drop to the bench after starting for Inter in yet another season opener.

The Gazzetta note that this is evidence of a clear sea change in Inter’s midfield.

Sucic’s outstanding performance in the centre of the park against Torino on Monday has established that the 21-year-old will have every chance of becoming a first-choice starter this season.

That does not mean that Mkhitaryan will never play, of course.

Furthermore, the Gazzetta note, another summer signing will be aiming to get his chances, in the form of Andy Diouf. And that’s without remembering Piotr Zielinski, who came off the bench against Torino.

Therefore, the competition for places is more fierce than ever in Inter’s midfield.

However, the Gazzetta report, Sucic is ready to take his place as a regular starter.
