Monaco are still interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Djorjde Petrovic this summer according to reports in France.

Petrovic is set to leave Chelsea this summer despite having an excellent season on loan at Strasbourg as they qualified for the Conference League.

The 25-year-old was named Strasbourg’s Player of the Year, and had been expected to challenge for the number one shirt at Stamford Bridge next season.

Monaco still interested in signing Djordje Petrovic

However, Petrovic was surprisingly left out of the squad for the Club World Cup and it later transpired the Serb asked to be left out.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the goalkeeping situation supporters were left frustrated after a move for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan failed to materialise.

Chelsea weren’t prepared to pay more than £12.6m, whilst Milan wanted between £20-£25m for the France international.

Robert Sanchez is the current number one, and that doesn’t look likely to change unless the Blues sign a keeper this summer.

Petrovic has a number of suitors from within the Premier League and around Europe so he won’t struggle to find a club.

Strasbourg are said to be keen on signing Petrovic on a permanent basis, whilst it was reported earlier this summer Monaco were also keen.

French outlet L’Equipe via X.com have reported Monaco are still interested in signing the Serbia international, and it’s believed Petrovic has a gentlemen’s agreement with Chelsea that he can leave for £25m.

Mike Penders highly regarded

Petrovic isn’t at the Club World Cup, but highly rated teenager Mike Penders who joined from Belgian side Genk for €20m is.

Chelsea are said to have high hopes for Penders, who could make his debut in America, and the expectation is the Belgian goes on loan this season, with Strasbourg viewed as an ideal destination.

The 19-year-old kept six clean sheets in 21 appearances in the Belgian league, and Chelsea are keen to avoid a repeat of the Thibaut Courtois situation by not allowing Penders to spend three years out on loan.
