Stade Rennais host Israeli side Maccabi Haifa for their Europa League group stage opener at the Roazhon Park tonight. Rennes are playing their second consecutive Europa League, and their sixth European competition in a row. The Bretons have been drawn in Group F with Haifa, Panathinaikos and Villarreal. Les Rouge et Noir manager Bruno Genesio is expected to shuffle his side. Swiss midfielder Fabian Rieder and Turkish centre-forward Bertug Yildirim are expected to start for the first time with their new teammates.
L’Equipe are reporting that Genesio is poised to field the former BSC Young Boys midfielder alongside Nemanja Matic in a double pivot, meaning Baptiste Santamaria and Enzo Le Fée are expected to start on the bench. Ludovic Blas, who did not start Rennes’ last league game against Lille, should get the nod from Genesio to play as an advanced attacking midfielder.
After a disappointing outing as a centre-forward against Les Dogues, Amine Gouiri is set to regain his post as a left-winger. Turkish recruit Yildirim should start up front against Haifa.
