There will be a couple of familiar faces in the Stade Rennais line-up as far as Olympique de Marseille on the opening day of the Ligue 1 season when they face off against each other. Over the summer, Quentin Merlin and Valentin Rongier, both former FC Nantes players, have made the move from the Vélodrome back up to Brittany. Those moves have garnered some criticism from former Rennes captain Benjamin Bourigeaud.
However, there will be a former Marseillais who will play no part for Rennes – Lilian Brassier. The former Stade Brestois defender lasted just six months at OM following his move last summer. He joined Rennes on loan last January, before making the move permanent this summer.
Brassier was injured during a pre-season friendly against Real Sociedad over the weekend. L’Équipe understands that the Frenchman has suffered a sprained ankle and will be out for between two to three weeks.
