Rennes are considering a range of profiles to replace current Sporting director Florian Maurice. The former France international is expected to part ways with the Brittany club on the back of a disappointing season from Les Rouge et Noir. Julien Stephan’s side have failed to qualify for any European competition whereas Maurice aimed at a Champions League spot at the start of the season. The former Lyon head of recruitment is set to shoulder the better part of the blame, although Get French Football News understand Maurice is not expected to be sacked. A mutually agreed exit is more probable.
According to L’Equipe, Rennes have got in touch with Frederic Massara, who occupied the post of Sporting director at Roma and Milan. Massara was Paolo Maldini’s right-hand man when the legendary Italian centre-back was Milan’s Technical director. Massara was named Sporting Director of the Year at the 2022 Globe Soccer Awards and is known to speak French. The outlet adds that departing Brest Sporting director Grégory Lorenzi is also of interest to Rennes.
