According to a report from Foot Mercato, Aston Villa are showing an interest in Stade Rennais’ Mathis Lambourde (18), who made the breakthrough into the first team last season, making three appearances.
Lambourde, a striker for France’s U18 side, has had limited time to impress, making just three short substitute appearances for Rennes last season, accumulating just 17 minutes of football across all competitions. However, he has sufficiently impressed for Les Rennais’ youth team, whilst he also has 12 goals in 27 appearances for France’s youth sides. He was particularly impressive in the U17 Euros in 2023, notably scoring against England.
Having shown promise, Lambourde is now on the radars of clubs across Europe. Bundesliga clubs have shown an interest, as have Aston Villa, who after securing a fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season, will play in the UEFA Champions League next season. For now, Lambourde is happy at Rennes, however, he wants to take time to consider his future and what would be best for his development.
