After an embarrassing 3-0 Copa do Brasil semi-final defeat against Athletico-PR on Wednesday night, most of the blame was put on the shoulders of Flamengo manager Renato Gaúcho.
According to Globo Esporte, Renato Gaúcho took full responsibility for the loss after the match and even offered his resignation.
However, vice president of football Marcos Braz and Bruno Spindel reportedly refused to sack the manager a month before the Copa Libertadores final.
It’s been four games without a win for the Rubro-Negro, a situation that has been deemed unacceptable by Flamengo standards.
Should Flamengo have a realistic chance of winning the Brasileirão, they must defeat leaders Atlético Mineiro on Saturday and reduce their gap to 10 points.
Flamengo still have two games in hand on the Galo with 13 games to play so the league is still very much in reach if they can achieve a huge victory.
